I have an appointment this weekend at the salon, am I looking forward to it??? Well, no not really.

I love the feel, and the way I feel after my hair has been caressed, pampered, sprayed, spritzed, massaged and teased into a gorgeous style, but I hate the wait!

I am usually greeted with a warm welcome, to the back-drop of the latest tunes, the atmosphere is good and upbeat, just as you expect from a modern  salon, but as you will read, the practices here are more like ancient.

The gown is put on myself and I relax with a couple of mags, hoping to catch a glimpse of the 'new me' between the glossy pages, I am so entrenched in my quest that I haven't realised an hour has gone by and the only thing I've created is a hole in my stomach as I become hungry from being idle.  I need to make eye contact with my stylist-to-be and quick!

I know it's Saturday and therefore their busiest day, but I would have liked to have shopped afterwards, but I will be lucky to catch a petrol station open at this rate! Here we go again. Surely, salons need to realise that there is a big problem in this area, our time is just as precious as theirs.  We got to get more organised in this area.

We have become so used to the 'all-day appointment' that it's just part of the norm now.  There should be a stylist assigned to you, who will follow through the desired look until you leave out of the door. Instead, someone relaxes the hair and then rinses it out, and then follows a half hour wait to get blow-dried or wrapped, and then another half and hour to an hour waiting for your stylist to be free, who is also instructing her boyfriend on what to pick up from the local market, but he has got lost, so 13 or 14 calls on the mobile later, she asks you what you wanted again!!! In this age of modern technology, we have become very impatient, but can we really afford to give a whole day out of our weekend, just to get a cut or a touch-up on the relaxer?

The desired look is always achieved, and the staff are both friendly and welcoming, but we really need to put an end to the waiting and start the creating.
